DDP shipping to Brazil
Brazil has the most complex import tax structure in Latin America. We calculate the full burden before the shipment leaves, with the correct NCM, instead of giving you a figure that falls apart at customs.

What does a DDP shipment from China to Brazil include?
A DDP shipment from China to Brazil includes international transport, import customs clearance, the federal import tax, the ICMS of the destination state and the applicable federal contributions, all calculated on the product's NCM classification. Because the assessment basis depends on the NCM, the state and the import regime, the quote is built product by product. Clearance is handled through a licensed despachante aduaneiro in Brazil.

Why Brazil cannot be quoted from memory
The tax burden on a Brazilian import is made up of the federal import tax, the ICMS set by each state and federal contributions assessed on the customs value — in some cases on bases that are added to one another. The result is not a flat percentage: it is a cascading calculation that depends on the NCM, the destination state and the regime used to import.
On top of that, the rules have changed several times in recent years, particularly for cross-border e-commerce. Any figure someone gives you without having looked at your product and your state is an approximation, and in Brazil approximations turn into surprise invoices.
The NCM determines everything
The NCM is the Mercosur tax classification code. The import tax rate, whether licences or permits are required, and registration obligations with the regulatory agencies all depend on it. Two visually similar products can carry different NCM codes and materially different tax burdens.
A wrong classification is one of the most frequent causes of customs hold-ups and of infringement notices that arrive months after clearance. For new products we work the classification with a despachante aduaneiro before shipping, which also makes it possible to compare scenarios: sometimes the difference between two defensible classifications decides whether the product is viable at all.
Which import regime applies to you
Remessa Conforme. This is the regime designed for cross-border e-commerce aimed at the end consumer. Certified companies transmit the tax information in advance and receive simplified treatment. It applies to small shipments sent directly to the buyer, not to commercial importation at volume.
Importação por encomenda. For goods destined to a Brazilian company with a CNPJ, for resale. It is the usual route for the professional importer and requires the company to be authorised in Siscomex.
Importação por conta própria. Where the Brazilian company imports for itself, with no intermediary. It requires financial capacity and, where applicable, RADAR authorisation.
Which one suits you depends on whether you intend to resell, on your volume and on whether you have an entity in Brazil. We organise the logistics and the clearance and build the quote together with the despachante; the decision on regime is taken with your accountant.
Where most clients start
Most clients who begin with Brazil come to us with a structural problem before a logistics one: they want to sell on Mercado Livre, they have no Brazilian entity and they do not know where to enter. The useful conversation is not what the freight costs, but which structure lets you import sustainably and which regime you start under.
That question is worth settling before the first shipment. A well-executed shipment on a poorly chosen structure is still a tax problem six months later, and in Brazil tax problems are retroactive.

Frequently asked questions about DDP shipping to Brazil
What is the Remessa Conforme programme, and does it apply to me?
The Remessa Conforme programme is Brazil's regime for cross-border e-commerce purchases. Certified companies undertake to transmit the tax information in advance, and in exchange their consignments receive simplified, faster customs treatment. It applies mainly to small shipments sent directly to the end consumer. An importer operating at commercial volume is normally not on this route and is better served by formal importation, either importação por encomenda or importação por conta própria.
How much tax is paid when importing into Brazil from China?
The Brazilian tax burden on an import has three layers: the federal import tax, state ICMS — which varies with the state of destination — and the federal contributions assessed on the customs value. The assessment basis and the rates change with the product's NCM classification, the destination state and the regime used to import, and the rules have changed several times in recent years. We do not quote fixed figures without reviewing your product: we quote with the NCM classification in front of us and confirm the rates in force with a despachante aduaneiro in Brazil.
What is the NCM, and why do I need it?
The NCM is the Nomenclatura Comum do Mercosul, the tax classification code that determines the tariff treatment of your product in Brazil. Practically every tax calculation on the import depends on it, and a wrong classification is one of the most common causes of customs hold-ups and of infringement notices issued months later. For new products, the NCM is worth validating with a despachante before shipping, not after.
Can I ship to an individual, or do I need a company in Brazil?
It depends on the volume and on the route you choose. Small shipments to the end consumer can operate under the cross-border consignment regime. Commercial importation at volume requires a Brazilian company, registered with a CNPJ and authorised to operate in Siscomex. If you have no entity in Brazil and want to sell there, the conversation about structure comes before logistics and is best settled before the first shipment.
How long does a shipment to Brazil take?
Sea transit from Shenzhen to the ports of Santos or Itajaí is usually 30 to 45 days, and air transit 8 to 18 days, in both cases including customs clearance. The variability comes mainly from clearance: when the NCM is correctly classified and the documentation is complete, it is predictable; when there is a discrepancy, it can add weeks.
Do you ship to Mercado Livre Full in Brazil?
Yes. We prepare the cargo with labelling and packing to Envios Full requirements, with the SKU matching each listing, and we palletise when the volume allows. Doing this at our Shenzhen warehouse costs a fraction of doing it in Brazil, and it prevents the goods from arriving at the distribution centre and being rejected for incorrect labelling.
