What Shenzhen actually makes
Shenzhen is not a trading hub that sells what others manufacture: it is a manufacturing centre. The difference matters, because it means the supplier you speak to is usually the one who controls the production line.
Consumer electronics
Phone accessories, audio, headphones, chargers, cables, power banks and connected devices. This is the city's deepest specialisation and where the density of suppliers is highest.
LED lighting
LED strips, panels, decorative luminaires, outdoor lighting and components. A complete supply chain, from the chip to the finished, certified product.
Hardware and components
Boards, modules, sensors, displays and finished-product assembly. Shenzhen is where most of the hardware designed around the world is prototyped and manufactured.

Huaqiangbei: the market that sets the market price
Huaqiangbei is a district in central Shenzhen made up of several market buildings dedicated entirely to electronics and its components. It is described as the largest electronics market in the world, and for an importer its usefulness is not in buying there — counter prices are not factory prices — but in something else: it lets you confirm in one afternoon whether a reference exists, what it really costs and which variants it comes in.
When a client arrives with a product idea and a target price we are not sure is realistic, Huaqiangbei gives the answer the same day. That early check avoids months of work on a product whose margin was never going to exist.
The advantage you cannot replicate from anywhere else
An agent based in Ningbo or Yiwu can offer the same services on paper: sourcing, inspection, consolidation, freight. What it cannot do is show up in person. And there are three situations in which that decides the outcome of an order.
Before you pay
Visiting the plant and confirming that it exists, that it has the line it claims to have, and that it is not a salesperson with a rented office. Without a physical presence, that check comes down to reading documents the supplier itself sends you.
During production
When a quality problem appears halfway through a batch, the difference between being there and asking for photos is the difference between fixing it on the line and discovering it with the whole order finished.
When something goes wrong
An inspection that goes badly can be repeated within 24 hours if the inspector is an hour from the factory. From another province, repeating it turns into days of travel and a delayed shipment.

Why Shenzhen and not Yiwu or Guangzhou?
It depends on the product. Shenzhen is the world capital of hardware and electronics: it is home to the Huaqiangbei market, the largest concentration of manufacturers of phone accessories, audio, LED, batteries and connected products on the planet, and to the ports of Yantian and Shekou. Yiwu is the centre for low-unit-cost, high-variety goods — costume jewellery, party supplies, light houseware — where trade dominates over manufacturing. Guangzhou and Foshan dominate furniture, ceramics, sanitaryware, fashion and footwear. If your product contains a chip, a battery or an LED, the answer is Shenzhen.
What is the Huaqiangbei market?
Huaqiangbei is a commercial district in central Shenzhen made up of several market buildings dedicated to electronics and its components. It is the largest concentration of electronics supply in the world: loose components, modules, boards, phone accessories, audio, lighting and finished product. Its value to an importer is not buying there directly, but the reference it gives on price and immediate availability, which lets you confirm in a single afternoon whether a product is viable.
Is Shenzhen always the cheapest option?
No. Shenzhen is competitive in electronics, hardware and products with a technology component, where the density of suppliers and the maturity of the ecosystem bring prices down. In low-unit-cost goods, textiles, ceramics or seasonal items, Yiwu, Foshan or Chaozhou usually win on price because their specialisation is deeper. When your product is not in Shenzhen's speciality, we work the route that fits, even if it does not ship out of Yantian.
Can I visit Shenzhen and see my suppliers?
Yes, and we recommend it when the volume justifies it. We arrange the visit schedule, accompany you during travel and act as interpreter in the meetings. Many clients fit visits to five or six suppliers, and the signing of agreements that would have taken a month by email, into a single one-week trip. If you come during trade fair season — the Canton Fair in spring and autumn — it can be combined.
How does shipping from Shenzhen work?
Shenzhen has two main cargo gateways: the ports of Yantian and Shekou, which cover the full-container and consolidated sea routes, and Bao'an International Airport for air freight. Add to that its proximity to Hong Kong, which brings additional air departures and flexibility in financial operations. For Latin America, Yantian and Shekou concentrate regular services to Manzanillo, Lázaro Cárdenas and Santos.
